HarperCollinsPublishers hosted Virtual Author Sessions today Celebrating Harmony Day-
Everyone Belongs was the theme we shared with schools today… Mortdale Public School told us about their NO Bullying focus, Hunters Hill Public School sang a song as did Parramatta Public School, Maroota Public School students shared their diverse heritage, Floraville Public School and Kambala came in their orange gear to brighten up our day….
We shared a reading from The Naked Penguin by Author Kym Lardner, where our little penguin learnt that being different is a great thing ….
All participating schools will receive a copy of Pete The Sheep by Jackie French illustrated by Bruce Whatley a book that explores the challenges and rewards of being an individual, and will be a lasting tribute to honouring your own spirit and strength, whilst working with the flock!
Schools will also receive a copy of I am Jack, by Susanne Gervay a rare treasure. This endearing and realistic book presents the authentic voice of a young person who is bullied; bystanders, friends, and family members who help him; and educators who protect and support him.
Our second session was with award winning author Libby Hathorn who guided the students through writing a personal poem about Harmony , she read her wonderful book A Boy Like Me illustrated by Bruce Whatley as well as I am a poem by Mary Duroux from The ABC Book Of Australian Poetry compiled by Libby Hathorn.Mary Duroux is an elder of the Yuin/Bunjuiung nations.
Thank you to Queen of Peace Parish Primary , Bankstown Public School, Hunters Hill Public School and Maroota Public School for participating today and sharing your poems with us all.
I look forward in adding the students work to our Blog in the coming weeks.
